Seniors receive their final high school awards

On Senior Awards night, Jamison Phelps, senior, received the received the Board of Education Award, an award recognizing seniors who show qualities of initiative, industry, intelligence and integrity.

The Senior Class attended their final awards ceremony of their high school career on April 9.

The ceremony was kicked off with a warm welcome from Candy Birch, assistant principal, who encouraged the seniors to finish their senior year strong.

Matt Johnson, assistant principal, introduced over 20 organizations that awarded scholarships to seniors.

Over $ 3.7 million was awarded to and accepted by seniors. Out of the $ 3.7 million total scholarships, $312,942 was categorized as athletic, $178,000 was categorized as AVID scholarships and $140,000 was classified as PCA scholarships.

The President’s Award for Academic Excellence, an award given to students with an average grade point average of 3.75 or higher, was awarded to 184 students.

Approximately 180 academic letters, an award earned by students who have a weighted cumulative G.P.A for seven semesters, were also awarded.

Johnson also awarded Maryssa Rollin, senior, with the Olathe South Outstanding Female Athlete award and Nicholas Jouret, senior, with the Olathe South Outstanding Male Athlete award.

Clint Albers, principal, awarded Remy Braun senior, with the KSHSAA Citizenship award (female) and Bennet Shipley, senior, with the KSHSAA Citizenship award (male).

He also awarded Jaylie Postlewait and Ebenezer Getahun, both seniors, with the Principal’s Leadership Award.

Jamison Phelps, senior, received the Board of Education Award, an award recognizing seniors who show qualities of initiative, industry, intelligence and integrity.

The Faculty Award, an award for a boy or girl who contributes above and beyond the ordinary in service to the school, was given to Eryn Patrick, senior.
