Green Team looks forward to spring

As the weather warms up and the leaves turn green, the Green Team comes out from hibernation and begins working on their garden.

The team first plans to take off the side panels from their green house to allow air to freely flow through it, according to Jeff Witters, Green Team sponsor.

They also plan to install gutters around the green house’s roof to collect rain water that could be used to water the plants. According to Witters, they could collect almost 300 gallons of water.

They plan to plant peppers, tomatoes, carrots, eggplants and maybe cucumbers. The plants will grow all summer with members of the team meeting once a week during the summer to water and weed the plants during summer.

The food will be harvested at the beginning of the school year, and they will be given out to people. According to Witters, he goes to low income areas and gives away bags of the harvested products.

As for the green house, they plan to repair it only when it is necessary because their current method of dealing with the current problems work fine during the winter.

Solar installation is also on the to do list. Most members of the green team are eager for the Spring plans.

“I feel quite good about the spring plans, we have a lot of people willing to come each week,” Peter Winslow, a member of the Green Team states, “I believe we will get a lot done this spring.”
