Say Bye to Brownies and Hello to Blondies

Gianna Comelli, Reporter

Although chocolate is one of the many wonders of the world, there are people who are in fact allergic to it. I myself cannot eat chocolate. I break out in hives all over my body, and I get these ginormous bumps on my face that last for 2 weeks at least.

When I was younger I practically lived, breathed, and bathed in chocolate. I especially loved twix, kit kats, and brownies. But sophomore year I came to the realization that chocolate could no longer be a main source of nutrients in my diet. I’ve had to completely cut chocolate out of my life, but sometimes there’s alternatives I like to try.

Blondies! A brownie with no chocolate in them. When I first heard of this treasure I thought no way. It can’t be the same. You cannot have a brownie without chocolate. False! I’m here to share the wonders of blondies.

This delicious treat is so easy to make. Most of the ingredients are probably already in your kitchen! You’ll need:

1 cup unsalted butter

1 ¼ cup brown sugar

½ cup sugar

2 large eggs + 1 egg yolk

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 ¼ cups all purpose flour

2 teaspoons cornstarch

½ teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

Again, this is not a hard treat to make. Preheat the oven to 350, and line your 13×9 pan with parchment paper. Combine melted butter and sugar in a bowl, stir well. Add eggs, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Stir until completely combined. In a separate bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, cornstarch, and salt. Then gradually stir into wet ingredients. Spread the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool and enjoy your new non-chocolatey sweet!
