Presentations, competitions, classes, you name it, Biz Fest covered it all in four days at Johnson County Community College, Feb. 15-18.

Daniel Moreira, senior, placed third out of the top six and won a $1,000 scholarship to any college of his choice.

“It was a great experience and I really hope that more people will go to this event in the future,” Moreira said.

Moreira was the only student from Olathe South to attend this year’s Biz Fest along with 30 other students from other Olathe high schools. In total, 110 students from the Johnson County area were there.

Biz Fest is exclusive for minorities and Latinos in the community so students can learn how to begin their own businesses and become entrepreneurs.

Moreira and the other students each day had guest speakers and presentations.

These classes took place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; breakfast and lunch were provided for them.

Some students stayed later in the evenings and ate dinner together while continuing to work on their individual presentations.

As the days progressed, the students had to create presentations on their own and present them in front of a judge and attempt to place in the top six.

Moreira indeed made it into the top six which required him to make one more presentation and this time present it in front of five judges and the parents of all the students.
