Is Kravitz Cock-A-Doodle Doomed?

Guyon Ainsworth Grant II, Reporter

We’ll never truly know why Lenny Kravitz’s inseam decided to burst, exposing his pee pee on that fateful day in 2015 but this penis propaganda is an indicator of bogus sexism in America.

A concert in Sweden was a rocking success, up until unsuspecting fans caught a glimpse of the guitar neck that’s traveled the world. Of course, by world I mean several groupies across the United States. The real reason I bring this up is because just a few years before this happened, Janet Jackson’s breast was suddenly exposed during a Super Bowl halftime show. This led to the disgustingly named “Nipplegate” and was covered in the news all across America. Everyone was talking about Janet Jackson’s left nipple and the record labels were not happy about it. This incident broke Jackson’s career in 2005 while also leaving her in a state of public humiliation. Conversely, Kravitz’s story was swept away in a matter of weeks.

This could be a result of a difference in fame or the fact it was some random concert versus the Super Bowl halftime show, but after extensive research into how these stories were covered by the media, it can be said with confidence that this is an act of sexism being expressed by the news publications. The Super Bowl versus a concert in Sweden could be the answer as to why Jackson’s boob was a bigger story than Kravitz’s but stories like this don’t happen everyday. The fact that either of these things happened is shocking news. There’s nothing more entertaining/jarring than when a part of the body that Is usually covered by at least underwear accidentally gets uncovered in front of a massive group of people. When it happens to a celebrity there’s nothing else people would rather see. Both of these stories should’ve been huge, but only one got a nickname. The only significant difference seen in these two events is the genders of the two people exposed.

Sexism is no secret in modern society. It’s why Lenny Kravitz had about three stories written about his escaped member, while Janet Jackson’s breast was front page everywhere for months. This is because women have been so sexualized that seeing even a shoulder makes people rage. Questions were shot at Jackson, such as people asking if it was planned or if the tailor had a vendetta against her. Compared to Kravitz’s story, what happened was essentially the same; a person performing had an item of clothing ripped but because of the hypersexualized atmosphere that America has created for women, Jackson’s situation was given more attention than Kravitz’s.

The fact that there’s no one talking about Lenny Kravitz’s shaft popping its head out of the denim covering it but people are still reminiscing about Janet Jackson’s boob should make one sick. Lenny and Janet deserve more and until we stop the rampant sexism in our nation, there will be no change. People will continue to not acknowledge Kravitz’s penis and that is the real problem.
