Boys soccer team takes second at state championship

The boys soccer team lines up to sing the alma mater after the state soccer game against Blue Valley West. The team got second place in the 6A state championship.

The boys soccer team ended their season by placing second in the 6A state soccer championship over the weekend.

On Friday Nov 3, the soccer team played against, Dodge City, defending 6A champion, and won 3-2. Kyle Ross, senior, scored the winning the goal with two minutes left in the game.

The team advanced to the state championship game on Saturday, Nov. 4. They faced Blue Valley West and lost 1-3.

They ended the season with a 17-3-1 record and won 14 games in a row going into the state championship.

The last time the team went to state was in 2011, and they took second place.

Will Stoskopf, head coach, said, “Although we were disappointed with only finishing in second place, I enjoyed watching the team play together and competing. Their growth as a team all season has been great, and they handled the entire post season, the stress, adversity, travel, etc. very well.”
