Roblox releases high-stakes horror game

A comprehensive review of the horror game Doors.

The game Doors was released on August 10th, 2022 by creators LSPASH and Red. Players can play solo or in a team of 2-4 players. Players can play with up to 50 people, however, it’s not recommended by the creators due to the object of the game. The main objective of the game is to get to the end of the current floor you are on, without dying from the entities that lurk on them. On each floor there are items players can collect, supplies that can heal their own or their team’s health, and coins you can use to purchase items before the game starts.  There are two floors to be completed.

The most common items you come across are a lighter, flashlight, vitamins, and a lock pick. If not bought in the elevator at the start of the game players are given another opportunity to buy them in the middle of the run at the Jeff shop.

Through each door, you face different entities depending on the room you are in. Rush is going to be the first monster you come across in the game. Each time the entity is about to appear, you’ll see the lights start to flicker. You can avoid the entity by hiding in a nearby wardrobe. In some rooms, the lights will flicker but nothing will happen. Aer way you can identify this entity is a low-pitched scream that will get louder and louder as it approaches.

Screech is another entity you see towards the beginning of the game. When the entity is near you will hear a “psst” sound coming from a random direction. The goal is to look it right in the eyes to prevent taking any damage.  Ambush is an entity that doesn’t appear that often, most players don’t see it that much. When you suspect it is near you should hide immediately, it will roam the room you are hiding in but will leave after a short moment.

The next entity is named Hide. Throughout the game, there are many places the game offers for you to hide in. However, not every spot is safe, and after the monster you were hiding from disappears it will show up. It is important to keep moving from room to room, not hiding in the same place for too long.

Eyes is an entity that will usually appear right after you enter a room. This monster you can spot fast due to the purple aura it has and the low sound it makes when the light appears. Keeping your eyes on the ground, the wall, away from the eyes you won’t take any damage. Another way you can take damage is certain “doors” when exploring a room and things inside it. You can mistake a fake door for a real one, so make sure the numbers are in order. Keeping track of the door number you are on is crucially important.

When you finally make it past door 30 you meet the entity Seek for the first time. Right before the monsters appear, you will see multiple eyes staring at you from the walls surrounding you. When you reach the end of the hallway, a cutscene will happen. You see Seek emerging out from the floor, sprinting towards you. To escape it you have to run through about 7 to 8 doors. Seek will eventually disappear, it doesn’t appear again until after door 50.

Upon the 50th floor in the library, you meet Figure. For this entity, it is important to listen for Figure’s steps and to keep track of yours as well. This entity is blind, it can only track you from the sounds you make. You have the opportunity to hide, a mini-game will appear if you can beat it, you walk out free. You will run into Figure again after the 100th door.

The first thing I noticed when I began playing this game was the graphics and the detail that was in every room. While playing there were multiple times that I forgot I was playing a game on roblox

This game constantly had me on the edge of my seat, walking around wasn’t scary. The graphics and rooms don’t look scary. What scared me was knowing how many entities in the game were waiting for me. It took me longer to play through because I was constantly scaring myself.

When facing certain situations some were more difficult than others. This game was complex and made you use your brain quite a bit. I enjoyed the puzzle aspects of the game as well.

Overall Doors was captivating and a fun experience especially for people that enjoy complex horror games. The game’s design and thrill will make everyone sit on the edge of their seats.
