What is the best energy drink?

Allyson Hester, Reporter

Energy drinks have been becoming more popular ever since people have started going out more and the mask mandates were lifted. Energy drinks are typically marketed as drinks to help accelerate your workout experience and give you energy.

Since the beginning of the school year, I have brought an energy drink to school 2-3 times if not everyday of the week. Because I bring one almost everyday, I have tried many different energy drinks over the course of the past year.

My current favorite energy drink is the flavor blue slush by Alani Nu. This drink tastes as you would imagine it to by the name. It tastes like blue slushie syrup but with less sugar so you don’t feel like you are drinking straight sugar and, unlike a slushie, it is carbonated. Also there is no sugar in all the Alani Nu drinks. I usually pay about $2 a can for the alani energy drinks, which is relatively low compared to red bull or celsius. So overall I rate this drink a 10/10.

My 2nd favorite energy drink flavor/brand is sparkling orange by Celsius. This drink tastes like orange and a little bit of mango mixed. The celsius energy drinks also all have no sugar and most are carbonated. I prefer most alani energy drinks over celsius because I feel like the celsius ones just don’t quite have as much flavor as the alanis do. There are some non-carbonated Celsius energy drinks that are using some flavor of tea but I have not found those to be as good. Usually I pay about $2.50-$3 for each so they are typically more expensive than the Alani Nu drinks. So overall I rate this drink an 8/10.

I have also tried a couple energy drinks that I don’t really care for.

One of the drinks I tried and didn’t really care for was the flavor blue raspberry but the brand ICE. This drink tastes pretty similar to the blue slush alani flavor in the way that they are both blue raspberry but the ICE brand just lacks some flavor compared to the alani one. This drink is also carbonated and has no sugar just like the alani and celsius ones. However the ICE energy drinks you can get 2 for $3 at some stores. And they also have more liquid in each can. The Celsius and Alani Nu’s have 250 mL per can and the ICE ones have 273 mL per can. Overall I rate this drink a 6/10.

Another energy drink I have tried is the tropical flavor by Red Bull. This is the only flavor of red bull I have tasted but I don’t really want to try any more based on the experience I had with this one. It did have many different fruit flavors in it but I think the mixture just didn’t go well together. I think that it tasted rather close to cough medicine. This drink is sparkling and this certain flavor has 28 grams of sugar. Red Bulls usually cost about $2.50-$3 a can and have the same amount of mL a can as Celcius. Overall I rate this drink a 2/10.

Overall if you were wanting to try an energy drink I suggest trying the Alani Nu, blue slush flavor.
