Super Bowl Preview

Mahomes brings Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowls

Despite all of the weird things that have been going on in the world, Tom Brady still managed to make it into the Super Bowl, but this time it is not with the Patriots; it is instead with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs represent the old in the league, while their opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs, are the new young future.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the NFC Champions, which is very surprising as this is their first year with quarterback Tom Brady, tight end Rob Gronkowski, and wide receiver Antonio Brown. They had just built up a superbowl caliber team and they made it in their first year with this team. The Bucs had a slow start to the season, having trouble getting their team chemistry together. Slowly but surely, Tom Brady adapts to the power run/deep ball offense. The Bucs pieced together a lot of wins at the end of the season and finished out the year 11-5.

In spite of the Bucs having such a talented roster, they were headed into the playoffs as underdogs. In the Wild Card round they faced off with the Washington Football Team, as they took care of them on the road. They then travelled to New Orleans to play the Saints, a division rival of the Bucs, who beat them both times in the regular season by a sizable margin. This time, Tampa Bay took care of business and advanced to the NFC Championship and took on the one seeded Green Bay Packers. They went into Green Bay and jumped out to an early lead, and despite Green Bay’s best efforts the Bucs won it by a score of 31-26. This is Tampa Bay’s first superbowl appearance since 2003, when they defeated the Oakland Raiders. They now head into the Super Bowl as yet again the underdogs, looking to capture their second super bowl title.

On the AFC side, the Kansas City Chiefs make back to back Super Bowl appearances. The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers last year by a score of 31-20. This year they did not disappoint, going 14-2 and one of those losses they were without most of their starting offense. Led by quarterback, former MVP, and Super Bowl MVp, Patrick Mahomes, receiver Tyreek Hill, and tight end Travis Kelce. The Chiefs defense is led by safety Tryann Mathieu, he is the leader of the defense and makes a huge difference for team chemistry and making big plays in game. The Chiefs did what was expected of them and they look to take on the Bucs and capture a 3rd Super Bowl

The Chiefs were the one seed in the AFC, in the divisional round the Chiefs squared off with the Cleveland Browns. Teh Chiefs barely escaped with a score of 22-17. Mahomes exited the game with a concussion and the Chiefs managed to hang on, by going for it on fourth and inches with Chad Henne. Before the AFC Championship, Mahomes was cleared from concussion protocol. He had a great game against the 2-seeded Buffalo Bills, winning by a score of 38-24 sending the Chiefs to back to back Super Bowls. This Super Bowl is shaping up to be a Super Bowl for ages; Brady vs., Mahomes, The new vs. the old.
