Royals struggle during season

As of May 4, the Royals were off to a rough start in their season with nine wins and 22 losses.

After losing Eric Hosmer this year to the San Diego Padres and Lorenza Cain to the Milwaukee Brewers, the team seems to be struggling.

Their weak bullpen also is a cause for this, and this year’s season does not look promising with this problem.

Last year they ended the season with a record of 80-82 and ended in third in the American League (AL) Central, just behind the Minnesota Twins, who had an 85-77 record in their season.

Right now, they are in fifth place in the AL Central behind the Chicago White Sox with eight wins and 19 losses.

However, the Royals finally broke their nine-game losing streak on April 20 against the Detroit Tigers.

The team rallied in the ninth inning, and Alcides Escobar, shortstop, hit the game-winning run and beat the Tigers 3-2.

On May 1, the Royals played the Boston Red Sox and won 7-6 in the 13th inning.

Jorge Soler, outfielder, changed the outcome of the game after hitting a three-run homer, winning the game.

The Royals traded Wade Davis for Jorge Soler in December 2016.

On May 3, the Royals beat the Detroit Tigers, 10-6. The 10 runs were the most the team has scored since April 9.

Even though it’s still early in the season, the possibility of a playoff run is looking slim to none with the way the Royals have been playing the past couple games.
