Hall of Fame to show athletic achievements

Sarah Buehler, Reporter

Next year there will be an athletic Hall of Fame added to the commons. Matt Johnson, athletic director, came up with the idea and is now taking nominations for past students.

It will primarily focus on athletics and will be include all of the state trophies from previous years.

Any current or former student or athlete can be nominated by the committee members. There are 14 committee members.

Coaches are also able to be nominated and  can be past or present coaches.

The committee members include the principal, athletic director, current or past teachers and coaches and alumni. The committee members will also elect officers: a chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary and treasurer.

To induct nominees, a minimum of 70 percent of at least 10 committee members must agree.

Nominations will be accepted from Aug. 1 to May 31 of any school year.

The criteria for the athletes include memorable accomplishments, athletic achievements such as All-State while at school.

According to Johnson, this year they are working on getting it prepared and set up. Then next year they will be inducting athletes from 1981 to 1997.

In 2020, they will be inducting athletes from 1998 to 2013, and after that, any era as long as the student or athlete has been out of school for five years.

Next year they will induct athletes in February at a basketball game.

A maximum of five athletes will be inducted next year then after that a maximum of three will be inducted.

Johnson has already contacted the athletes who are featured in the 800 hallway to let them know about the Hall of Fame and how they can be nominated.

The Hall of Fame will be electronic on a screen where anyone can swipe through to see the different awards and recognitions.

They are also working on an academic/activity  Hall of Fame.
