Basketball team wraps up season

Another season of basketball has come and gone. Though it didn’t result in a state championship for either team, there were definitely many high points during the season.

The boys and girls teams went 8-13 and 15-8, respectively, and the campaign also resulted in a state playoff berth for the girls team for the 14th consecutive year.

The boys team had more disappointment than satisfaction, winning only eight of their 21 games.

“I was disappointed in our preparation and performance against Shawnee Mission North, Shawnee Mission South, Shawnee Mission West and Shawnee Mission Northwest,” Dan Morrow, boys head coach, said. “[It was] a good learning experience for our players and coaches.”

Mike Allen, girls head coach, said there weren’t any disappointments and “there were some close games, but I’m proud of their effort. The future looks bright.”

On the flip side, there were some high points as well. Morrow said the best game of the boys season was the home game against Olathe East while the girls season was highlighted by a win against Lawrence at sub-state.

Obviously with the Senior Class graduating there will be big holes to fill on both varsity teams. Seven are leaving on the boys team while only three will be leaving on the girls team. “We feel we have some decent returning lettermen that can step up for next year,” Morrow said.

However, the season as a whole turned out to be a positive for both teams. As with anything, the results of the learning experiences will have to wait.
