Students prepare for prom night

Prom is approaching, but students have been preparing for the dance for months. Juniors on the prom committee are the ones responsible for planning the event.

The theme for this year’s dance is Roses Are Red, and it will take place at the Olathe Convention Center at the Embassy Suites off Ridgeview and K-10 on April 21.

Although the venue is the same as last year, “it will be set up very differently” Rachel Pageler, Junior Class sponsor, said.

The preparation for Prom started in the football season. “We raise money for Prom by selling concessions at each home game,” Pageler said.

The venue, DJ and photo booth are all booked in the fall.

The costs of all expenses vary from year to year.

In the spring, the committee meets to decide a theme, and decorations to match the theme. They create posters, tickets, and create a social media page for the event to keep students updated.

Students will be able to submit songs via social media to create a playlist of songs they will enjoy for the night. It has yet to be set up, but students should keep an eye out for more information about the social media page.

Seniors can attend for free. Tickets are $25 for any junior, underclassmen, or student from another school. If students buy two tickets, then the price is $40. When students buy their ticket to prom they automatically receive a free ticket to After Prom.

Sophomores and freshmen may only attend if they are the date of a junior or senior.

Students must have their ID’s to buy their tickets and also must show them at the door to get into the dance.

After Prom’s theme is Mardi Gras. There will be games, inflatables, spray-on tattoos and food for the students to enjoy.

The Student Council is in charge of planning and setting up After Prom.
