Auditions required for classes for Fall 2018

Although second semester has just started, both students and teachers are planning for next year’s classes. Some of the classes, however, require auditions and applications in order to be accepted.

Most of the classes that require auditions and applications often require students to put in extra effort during and outside of class. Most of them are also involved in competitions

In the Communication Technology department, Convergence Journalism requires an application during the second semester. It is a year long course in which students take part in writing stories for the school newspaper and finding advertisers for the newspaper.

Photojournalism also requires an application. PhoJo students work along with Convergence Journalism students, take and edit pictures to be used in the newspaper. They also help take pictures for the yearbook and the school web page.

Both applications can be found in room 907, located near the library.

Digital Media Technology: Yearbook allows students to design the yearbook while also teaching the students about advertising sales, billing and distribution. Applications must be submitted during the second semester.

In the Performing Acts department, band, jazz, and the wind ensemble accept applications after winter break. Jazz accepts an average of 22 students per year while the wind ensemble accepts an average of 55 students to maintain instrument ratio.

According to Chad Coughlin, students should submit a recording of their playing an instrument or they should plan to play it live before Spring Break. The school provides the larger instruments to students, but most students provide their own smaller instruments.

Advanced Orchestra, open to 10th and 11th grade students, requires auditions in order for the students to enroll.

The Dance Team, Repertory Theatre, Advanced Repertory Theater and Cheerleading also require auditions with both the Dance Team and Cheerleading holding their auditions during the spring.

The Dance team holds a four-day audition with three days of clinic and the actual audition on the fourth day. The dance team allows students to perform with the marching band and develop their performance skills.

Cheerleading help students to perfect their gymnastic skills, planning cheers and pep assemblies. Both Cheerleading and Dance can be taken for PE credit by students.
