Lauren Hannon, English teacher, received the Educator of Excellence award from the Olathe Public Schools Foundation (OPSF) at the end of October, including a $500 unrestricted grant. She received the award while in her classroom.

This award is given to teachers that go above and beyond teaching and leave a beneficial mark on their students, according to the OPSF’s website.

Hannon’s previous students and those students’ parents nominated her for this chance. They wrote letters of recommendation advocating for her to receive the Educator of Excellence award.

“I was overwhelmed by the kindness of the OPSF, family, former students, and their parents who took the time to nominate me,” Hannon said.

Following her initial reaction, she said, “I feel honored to have received this award and am greatly humbled to have impacted my students in such positive ways.”
