Students make a second bible study club

Every Friday at 7:20 a.m. in room 501, 15-30 people meet for Endure.

“It’s a prayer and worship group open to anyone who knows Jesus, wants to know Jesus, or just wants to experience what being a Christian is about,” Maya Burke, junior, said.

Along with Burke, Emily Tucker, sophomore, Grace Hewitt, junior, and Dawson Presley, senior, all co-lead, and the sponsor is Laurie Plankers, English teacher.

The purpose of the club according to Presley is “to grow as a community in a relationship with God.”

The goal is to try to impact the students by sharing the truth about God and is a good way to start off the morning before the school day begins.

Another goal is “to reach students far from God and bring light to the dark places at school,” Burke said.

“This club can open up brand new friendships and relationships with people who share the same beliefs,” Hewitt said.

“It’s a good start to your weekend,” Tucker said, “and it just is a really good way to bring others together.”

They hope to get people to grow in their relationship with God and stay connected with him weekly.

Endure has been in the making since the summer, “when Maya Burke told [Hewitt] this is something she wanted to see this year,” Hewitt said.

“I started Endure alongside [Hewitt, Tucker, and Presley],” Burke said, “because I felt [inclined] to start a prayer group and grow in leadership.”

The meeting starts off with worship where they sing one or two songs. Following that, they will either play a game or try to get to know everyone there.

Then “one of the four leaders will speak about something that’s been going on in their life. Then we end with prayer request,” Hewitt said.

“My favorite part is just being able to communicate God’s word,” Hewitt said, “to a group of people who are eager to hear it.” Hewitt said, “Endure is something [where] students can come and feel safe.”

She wants people to be able to be themselves and not get judged, which she hopes this club can do.
