Homecoming was held on Sept. 23 with a neon theme. Throughout the week, students participated in spirit week themes of U.S.A. Day, P.E. Teacher Day, Kansas City Day, Twin Day and Neon Day.

The bonfire occurred on Sept. 20, along with the Powder Puff game. The senior girls won the game.

“[The bonfire] was fun. I had a good time as always,” Evan Kauffman, senior, said.

Then that Friday, Sept. 21, the football team faced Olathe East for the Homecoming game. Fans showed their support dressed and painted in bright neon, but the team lost 23-13.

The Homecoming court ceremony was held at half time of the game, which revealed Kauffman as Homecoming king, and Alyson Taige, senior, as Homecoming queen.

“I was just excited to be nominated,” Kauffman said. “So to win was surreal.”

Being a part of Homecoming helped Kauffman to understand all the effort that goes into Homecoming.

“I never realized how much work went into Homecoming until I was part of the court,” Kauffman said. “So just special thanks to Mrs. Plankers and Mrs. Reyes because they take so much time on top of their actual jobs to make it a special week for everyone.”
