Student musicians compete in solo and ensemble

Solo and ensemble competition was held April 29 for band, choir and orchestra.

The competition is “an optional activity [for performing arts students],” Chad Coughlin, band director, said.

In orchestra, Mara Gee, sophomore, Emilie Giles, Misa Santisteban, junior, on violin, all got ones and one soloist got a two.

Earning ones for choir ensembles were the Southside Men, Southside Women, Falcon Women, Chorale Mixed (Voces 24), Chorale Mixed (Misto Coro) and Chorale Women (Canta Bella).

Choir soloists receiving ones were Erin Cantrell, Kathryn Sommers, Alix Horspool, Lexi Nelson, Kaeli Whitener, seniors; Megan Secrest, Kyle Kersten, Chase Simmons, Brittany Taylor, juniors; and Jonathan Swanson, sophomore.

Receiving ones for band in ensemble were Flute Choir, WE Saxophone Quartet, WE Horn Quintet and Concert Band Percussion.

Soloists who got ones for band were Zach Hodgson, senior; Noelle Schlenk, junior; Flynn Hemenway, Jenna Stokes, sophomores; Ella Griffin, Whitney Schweiger, Hannah Holliday, Bryan Johnson and Olivia Massey, freshmen. Four soloists and two ensembles also got twos.
