With the help of students and faculty, South had another fun and safe Prom and after-Prom party.

The Prom accident assembly took place in the school’s parking lot April 20.

With the help of Olathe firefighters, Johnson County’s MED-ACT and the Olathe Police Department, along with students Dalton Hayse, Kyle Kersten, Megan Secrest, Lauri Hoedl, Chayston Simmons, Kylee Wallentine, Jaimeson Satterfield and Madison Smith, juniors, the scene of a car wreck caused by drinking and driving was created.

The purpose of the assembly was to let students know they should be careful, that they are loved and to educate them on the risks of drunk driving.

Damon Bell, SRO, believes the assembly was successful and that the car wreck presented was a very real representation of what would happen in an actual car wreck.

“To me it wasn’t acting,” Bell said. “It was going through the motions that we would go through in a real life car accident.”

Prom was held at the Olathe Conference Center at the Embassy Suites on Saturday, April 22, from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Robert Adger and Katherine Hazen, seniors, were elected Prom king and queen.

For Hazen, the best part about being nominated queen was seeing all the other candidates dressed up for the dance.

“It was exciting and I felt happy for the other candidates,” Hazen said.

The After Prom party was held at the school from 12:30 to 2:30 a.m. and featured a bouncy castle and other inflatables for students to play in.
