Briefs: Blood Drive, Mock Trial

Blood Drive

The spring blood drive, sponsored by Students Achieving Social Harmony, or SASH, and the Gay-Straight Alliance, or GSA, was held Friday, March 3, in the auxiliary gym from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

SASH expected “approximately 150 people to volunteer or donate” and their goal was to get 130 units collected  for the community.

Students could sign up for either regular blood donation, which would take roughly one pint of blood, or ALYX, which takes double the red blood cells as regular blood donation, but returns the plasma and platelets of the blood to the donor.

Mock Trial

The novice mock trial team placed second at the Kansas Bar Association YLS annual competition on March 4 at the Johnson County Courthouse.

Those on the  team were Ebenezer Getahaun, Breanna Jorgensen, Courtney Reynolds, Kylie Flynn, Jenny Sun, juniors, and Kaylee Dissel, sophomore.

The varsity team also did well according to Amanda Doane, sponsor, but they did not qualify for state.
