A total of 206 students donated blood at the school’s semi-annual blood drive on Nov. 11.

“It went fairly smooth; it was the most successful blood drive since 2012,” Angie Verstraete, SASH sponsor, said.

Because blood is always needed, SASH and GSA sponsor a blood drive at the school. Students from the organization helped the Community Blood Center with the drive which collected a total of 1,068 pints.

Not anybody can donate; there are restrictions to who can donate and who can’t. For example, somebody who has been outside of the United States must be checked and have a certain time passed before they are certified to donate blood.

Blood types are also essential in the blood drive. Some people have rarer blood types than others, but the most common blood type is O-, which is the most needed because 38 percent of people have the O blood type.

The school’s next blood drive will be March 3. Anyone interested in donating should watch for signs to be posted.
