Where the candidates stand

Jobs & economy

Trump: Believing the Federal Reserve should refinance the debt to reduce interest payments, Trump is running on a platform of keeping money from appreciating in value (ontheissues.org).  He also wishes to bring jobs back  from Mexico and China.

Clinton: As a way of boosting jobs and the economy, Clinton plans to make the United States the clean energy superpower of the world, as well as provide tax relief in hope of supporting small businesses and going against the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Racial Tension

Trump: In recent debates, Trump has claimed the solution to fixing the racial tensions facing the United States would be bringing law and order back to the streets. There hasn’t been specifics of what law and order entails, he believes it will help.

Clinton: Equality for Puerto Rican citizens is a big hope of Clinton’s. She strives to provide them with services such as Medicare. She also hopes to close the education gap between races, and work to end violence, specifically for transgenders of color.

ISIS

Trump: Trump has repeatedly claimed that Obama and his policy choices are the reason ISIS is in existence.  He has repeatedly said he would take care of the sitatuion, though no specifics have been given. He has stated his pro stance on keeping GTMO.

Clinton: In hopes of combating ISIS, Clinton plans on increasing local support in Iraq and Syria, work with allies, and work on strengthening the United States’ defense by making sure military-style weapons are off the streets and increasing background checks.

Government surveillance

Trump: Being a strong proponent of reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act, Trump has also suggested the surveillance of Muslim mosques to identify radicals.  The NSA recently ended its policy of collecting phone data, something Trump wishes to reinstate.

Clinton: Though Clinton has been somewhat vague about her NSA views, she recently mentioned that she supports the USA Freedom Act. She wants the NSA to be more open about their doings and believes in monitoring social media for possible threats.

Immigration

Trump: Claiming Mexico brings in crime to the United States, Trump has repeatedly stated his wish to build a wall that Mexico will pay for. He has proposed to reform immigration and has proposed deporting people who have illegally entered the country

Clinton: Clinton plans on making the immigration process more humane by getting rid of the 3-10 year bar. She hopes to embrace immigrants and make health care more accessible. Clinton also wants to support naturalization and integration.

Gun control:

Trump: With unwavering support for the Second Amendment, Trump wishes to prosecute violent criminals , while empowering law-abiding gun owners to protect themselves. He also wishes to expand mental health programs.

Clinton:  As a huge believer in gun control, Clinton plans  on strengthening laws. She hopes to close background check loopholes, hold illegal gun owners/sellers accountable, and make sure gun owners have  clean criminal and mental health records.
