Students recognized at awards ceremony

A total of 722 were invited to the Underclass and Senior Awards on April 11.

The underclass went first with awards in math, science, social sciences, language arts, international language and art.

An academic award was also given to students who had accumulated a 3.75 GPA (grade point average) or higher. A total of 505 students received awards, 91 more than last year.

The seniors arrived after the underclass ceremony, with 217 seniors invited. The Keith Barnes Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship given in memory of a former Olathe South teacher, was given to Dakota Okwuone,

Rachel Li went home with five awards, more than any other senior. Li was presented the Olathe Noon Optimist Foundation Scholarship, the Olathe Junior Service League Foundation Award, M.L. Winters Award, the Faculty Award, and the Principal’s Leadership Award.

The female athlete award went to Kala Holder, and the male athlete award went to Brian Sullivan. The boy and girl KSHSAA Citizen’s awards went to Kala Holder and Zackary Fields.
