Earlier this month, the French IV and V students took a trip to the University of Central Missouri to partake in the Modern Foreign Language Film Festival. The festival included many languages such as Chinese, German and Spanish, not just French.

The film festival included many activities for students to be involved in. “Some [students] went to workshops, others visited the campus, some met new friends that were also taking a foreign language,” Diane Bosilevac, French teacher, said.

All in all, 11 students made the trek to Warrensburg on April 8, where students stayed from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students displayed their film on which they worked for many months prior to the festival. “Many hours were spent filming and editing the film,” Kyle Yake, senior, said.

French students also competed in the advanced category at the festival and won seven medals total. The film was meant to be a drama because the Modern Foreign Language Film Festival is a part of the Social Justice Film Festival.

While on campus, French students had the opportunity to attend film workshops and watch other films that the University of Central Missouri produced.

“It was cool to see people that we recognized in some films,” Yake said.

“I love seeing my colleagues [and] foreign language teachers from other districts and hearing about what they did in their classrooms,” Bosilevac said.
