The love-and-hate relationship some people have with winter is interesting because some just don’t like the cold but love how the snow falls and covers the ground in an endless white layer. However, people who work, go to school, or just have to drive in general can have struggles with this winter weather.
There have been some reports that certain roads haven’t been plowed, leaving ice piling up. Even after the snow plows have cleared the roads, some roads are left dangerous for staff and students to be able to arrive at school safely.
“My neighborhood is pretty bad. I don’t know that during the last snowstorm, I would have been able to drive on the roads in my neighborhood,” English teacher Glenn Gary said.
Certain roads that our staff and students live on streets that would need some extra care since they might contain a lot of ice underneath. While the days get colder and the mornings look like nights, the visibilities are only part of some of the difficulties of winter.
Our district has been lucky to receive some snow days to relax and get to enjoy the snowy weather.
“I used to like to build snowmen and stuff, but I would say I usually just stay inside, honestly,
or shovel the driveway if I have to clear off my car when I’d probably build some forts in the snow and snowball fights.” Junior Ethan Akers said.
Even though childhood may be in the past we still can appreciate the fact that snow can make us all children again. Making memories in the winter might be just the most nostalgic thing you can ever do, whether it’s with friends, family, siblings, or even by yourself. These memories will stay forever and will continue to come back every winter.
“Sometimes I build a snowball, or build snowmen with my sisters, but most of the time the snow is not the right consistency, I guess. Just not really sticky enough a lot of the time,” sophomore Mason Black said.
Snow consistency matters. Otherwise, you won’t get the right product, so be aware that if it’s not right you just have to wait until it is. Waiting is a crucial part of the winter and even during school, even though things might not seem right at the moment you have to be patient and find something else to do that might be productive.
“I like that I have time to have a break to get everything under control, like how much homework gets turned in or making sure that I’m on task with what I’m doing,” freshman Kennedy Marks says.
Even though sometimes you might not be motivated enough to do homework, once you start to understand everything then you won’t even notice how much work you’re getting done until you stop. Even then, once you’re done you can do whatever you want whether it’s inside or outside.
This cold weather might not last long, but if it does you have to try and enjoy it. Don’t forget to stay safe when you go out by layering yourself warm with hats, jackets, snow pants, scarves, and water-resistant shoes. Stay safe and stay warm!
