A total of 159 units of blood were donated during the blood drive on Friday, Nov. 9.

The blood drive is sponsored by SASH and the Community Blood Center, whose goal is to gain as much blood as possible for those in need.

A total of 163 students and staff volunteered, and of them, 88 were first-time donors. Many people seem to like giving blood for those who need it.

“People like it; it’s a way to give back to the community without spending any money,” Angi Verstraete, SASH sponsor, said.

The blood type needed most is O-, which is the universal donor for all blood types. The daily amount of blood needed in the United States is about 580 pints, and the highest demand for blood is during the holidays.

If someone wants to find out his blood type, he can simply go to his doctor and schedule a blood test.
