Students got pumped up for the first football game against Hutchinson High School at the first pep assembly of the year on Aug. 28.

A group of students from each grade participated in a tug of war competition. All the students cheered for their grade and in the end the seniors won.

South’s freshman Golden Girls performed for their first pep assembly to the song “Four Five Seconds” by Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney that they learned over the summer at camp.

South’s girls softball team won the state championship over the summer and the whole school congratulated them at the pep assembly. South’s softball team hadn’t won state in a very long time.

A hot dog eating contest was held between some of the football coaches and students. The students ended up winning, but everyone involved had their fair share of hot dogs.

The Falcon Flight Crew spent the first two weeks of school planning this pep assembly. Rachel Carroll, Falcon Flight Crew sponsor, said, “They played a huge part in organizing and implementing the set-up, schedule and implementation of the pep assembly.”

Keaton Suellentrop, senior, is the emcee this year for the pep assemblies; he helped make this pep assembly happen along with many of the staff members.

“The environment and energy of the gym made it a fun assembly. The first assembly is always a lot of fun – it’s the first time the Falcon family is all together,” Carroll said.

Some of the students’ favorite activities were the confetti guns and the boys’ dance to a mix of popular songs. The boys also dressed in crazy outfits to get the crowd excited.
