People in society often rely on technology as their source of entertainment. Technology provides easily accessible news, ideas, and entertainment.

However, not everyone is dependent on technology. Yes, some people are without social media accounts or the need to be with their phones constantly.

“It wouldn’t kill me if I didn’t have my phone,” Natalie Robinson, junior, said. However, she does use her phone daily, but not during school or meals.

“I mostly use my phone to text one or two people or to check the time,” Robinson said.

April Berry, junior, also doesn’t use her phone as much as most people do, and she keeps her phone off during school.

Out of all of her technological devices, Robinson said that she uses her television least and her computer the most.

In addition to cell phone use, social media accounts are also frequently used.

According to the Heidi Cohen website, 71 percent of U.S. teens use Facebook, 52 percent use Instagram, 41 percent use Snapchat, 33 percent use Twitter, and 24 percent use Vine.

Some students don’t have social media accounts because of parental restrictions, but some students don’t have social media accounts because of personal reasons.

Robinson doesn’t have any social media accounts because “people aren’t always conscious about what they put out there for everyone to see.”

Berry also doesn’t choose to participate in any social media accounts besides Netflix. “I don’t like hearing or sharing my opinion with people I don’t know,” Berry said.

Robinson doesn’t “understand Snapchat because people take pictures of ridiculous things sometimes.”

What do Robinson and Berry do without using their phone for entertainment?

“I enjoy reading, hanging out with friends, and walking my dog, but work and school take up most of my free time,” Berry said.

Robinson enjoys “drawing, reading, writing, and doing homework in [her] free time.”

Believe it or not, there are people who don’t heavily rely on their phones as their main source of entertainment.

One can find entertainment in a variety of other activities.
