Being a part of a youth group allows participants to work on their leadership. Kayla Henry, senior, is able to do just that.

Every Wednesday and Sunday, Henry meets with her youth group at Olathe Christian Church to enjoy company and participate in various projects. One of those projects includes Christ in Youth (CIY), a program that provides more than 100 annual events for students and leaders across the nation and works in partnership with the local church.

Her youth group also participates in Mission Southside, which helps Spanish-speaking children learn how to speak English.

“I’ve learned leader-like qualities that I didn’t know I possessed while being a part of a youth group,” Henry said. Participating in a youth group has also helped bring Henry out of her shell even more than before.

With approximately 40-50 high school participants, the Olathe Christian Church youth group is something that Henry says she is very passionate about.  The youth group has approximately 11 leaders and includes about 15 other students from Olathe South.

Throughout her involvement in her youth group, Henry says that it is almost impossible not to develope a close relationship with others in the group.
