Debate students competed in the KSHSAA 6A state tournament on Jan. 12 and 13. Three teams made it into the double-octafinals: Carter Jones, senior, and Ben Heigele, junior; Ryland Gibbens, sophomore, and Gavin Soileau, junior; and Peyton Fair and Tyler Boutte, sophomores.

The topic was: resolved that the U.S. federal government should substantially increase its funding and/or regulation of elementary and/or secondary education in the United States.

This year, the students learned about states’ rights, federalism, politics, education, education law, education funding, special education, STEM education, CTE and CCR.
