Art NHS parters with nursing home

Art NHS recently made a trip to the nursing home Cedar Lake Village.

They went to Cedar Lake Village for the first time on Jan. 19 after school from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Trish Long, jewelry teacher, and Lorissa Reeves, photography teacher, took Megan Pham, Katie Jones, C.J. Folres, and Emily Kennedy, Courtney Reynolds and Evan Kauffman seniors, as well as Avrie Collins, junior, to Cedar Lake Village to spend time and create art with the residents that live at Cedar Lake Village.

The idea came from Long, but the Art NHS students went out and made the arrangements with Cedar Lake Village.

Art NHS will be later hosting an art show and reception for the students and their families along with the residents and their families.

The reception will be later held on March 9 and will start at 5-6 p.m.; anyone is able to attend.

Food will be provided by Cedar Lake Village, and the art show will showcase the art that the students and the residents worked on during the visits.

“I liked to experience the art community with older people because they will be able to have a good hobby. It was also fun to here their stories,” Pham said.

Students who are in Art NHS are required to go to these outings at least twice.

Art NHS will be going back to Cedar Lake Village three more times.

Long expressed that her favorite part of the trip was “talking to the people. They were really cool.”

They went back to Cedar Lake Village on Feb. 2 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Art NHS will also be going back to Cedar Lake Village on Feb. 16 and March 2.
