What working as a school secretary has taught me about myself: I enjoy working with children more than I expected.

Stacey Bergman

Subjects taught: Drawing 1.

Years in education:  Sixth year.

Prior schools: Turner High School for five years.

Family members: Husband, Neil.

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher & why: In college when I had a job in child care.

Best part of my work day: Seeing when kids make a connection.

Worst part of my work day: When I run out of time.

Hobbies: Concerts, music, knitting, and graphic design.

Secret talent: I can click like the aliens in the movie “Signs.”

Where I grew up: Born in Cincinnati, lived in northern Kentucky for three years, Albuquerque for three years, then Olathe.

When I’m not working, I like to: Hang out with my nieces.

What teaching has taught me about myself: I am a bit OCD.

Some places I have traveled to: Europe! Rome, Florence, Paris, Munich, Cozumel, Mexico.

Favorite musical group: Presidents of the United States of America.

I like to watch: “Good Bones,” “Mindy Project,” “The Guest Book,” “The Big Bang Theory.”

If you were a muffin what type of muffin would you be and why: Chocolate chip because chocolate is delicious.

 

Tandy Braden

Subjects taught:  Resource (SPED).

Years in education: 16 years.

Prior schools: Washington, Meadow Lane, and Brougham elementary schools, and Claire Learning Center.

Family members: Husband; Adam, kids; Jarek (14), Riley (11)

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher & why: Fourth grade. I had the most amazing teacher and I wanted to be just like her.

Best part of my work day: Falcon 50.

Worst part of my work day: None.

Hobbies: Reading and coaching my daughter’s softball team.

Where I grew up: Bucyrus, Kan.

When I’m not working, I like to: Watch movies.

What teaching has taught me about myself: It’s okay to be goofy.

Some places I have traveled to: Florida, Mexico, South Dakota, Texas.

I like to watch: Rom-com, reality T.V., sports (Royals, Chiefs, K-State games), home improvement shows.

Jean Busey

Prior schools: Blue Valley North High School, Lakewood Middle School, Bishop Miege High School.

Family members: Husband Steve, son Zach (26), daughter Zoe (24).

When did you know you wanted to work in education & why: Since birth. My family has a long teaching history.

Best part of my work day: Helping students realize their full potential.

Worst part of my work day: There’s not enough time in the day to get everything done.

Hobbies: Reading, shopping, refinishing and painting furniture, being near water.

Where I grew up: Kansas City, Kan.

When I’m not working, I like to: Spend time with family and pets (two cats, one dog).

What working as a counselor has taught me about myself: Tenacity.

I like to watch: “HGTV,” “Twin Peaks.”

Favorite home-cooked meal: Grilled steaks, baked potatoes and salad.

Anne-Marie Case

Subjects taught: Sociology.

Years in education: 24 years.

Prior schools: Frontier Trail Junior High and Green Springs

Best part of my work day: I love working with teenagers, love their humor and listening to their perspectives.

Hobbies: Artsy things like photography and painting

Secret talent: I have been a florist for weddings

Where I grew up: I grew up on the East Coast and moved to Olathe when I was 10.

I like to watch: Any of the superhero shows like “Arrow” or “The Flash.”

Tanya Cox

Prior schools: Kansas State University, 8 years; Junction City High School, 4 years; Shawnee Mission North, 4 years.

Family members: 20-year-old son in college and 16-year-old daughter.

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher & why: Ever since I was a little girl I really enjoyed playing school all the time.

Best part of my work day: When I really make connections with my students.

Worst part of my work day: When I get too much into research, I never know when to stop researching.

Hobbies: Spending time with family and friends and reading Spanish literature.

Secret talent: Decorating cakes and cooking.

Where I grew up: Panama City, Panama.

When I’m not working, I like to: Listen to Spanish music.

What teaching has taught me about myself: That I have a passion for people and learning and a good understanding of the learning process.

Some places I have traveled to: Puerto Rico, Germany, Columbia, Costa Rica.

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher & why: When I got a C in College Calculus my freshman year.

Best part of my work day: Lunch!

Worst part of my work day: Getting out of bed!

Hobbies: Tennis, being outdoors.

When I’m not working, I like to: Sleep, relax, hang out with friends.

What teaching has taught me about myself: I’ve got more patience than I thought.

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher & why: I decided to become a teacher after I finished college.

Best part of my work day: Interacting with great students and teachers

Worst part of my work day: trying to get up in the morning

Hobbies: Travel, listen to music, sports (football and basketball), and spending time with my family.

Secret talent: I am really good at classic rock trivia.

What teaching has taught me about myself: I’m more patient than I thought I was.

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher & why: After I had my kids, I wanted to be available to them but also use my skills.

Best part of my work day: Talk and get to know the kids. Also the ladies in the office.

Worst part of my work day: I don’t like to see kids get in trouble.

Hobbies: Watching my kids play volleyball.

Secret talent: None really.

Where I grew up: Kansas City, Kan.

When I’m not working, I like to: Relax with my family.

What teaching has taught me about myself: Patience.
