Students got to color and drink coffee in the library on Nov. 17.

There were two tables, one with blank coloring paper and colored pencils; the other with coffee and cookies, at which, students got to sit down, enjoy a drink and spend their time coloring.

“It was just a chance for students and staff to come in and relax, take a break from studies and classes,” Erica Tate, library clerk, said. “We thought it would be fun to kick back and enjoy.”

The event wasn’t for books specifically, but was to encourage students to hang out in the library more. According to Tate, studies have shown that coloring is as relaxing as yoga.

Dorian Coleman, junior, came to the event because he felt more relaxed in the library than in a seminar class.

“It’s a friendly environment, and I meet lots of people,” Coleman said.

Compared to the library’s last event, more students attended the coffee and coloring event.

“Signup for this event was very overwhelming. We had to stop signing up for people,” Tate said.

Even Coleman wasn’t expecting that many people to show up.

The next event they are planning will be on Feb. 2 and will be loosely tied with Valentine’s Day. It will be more centered on candy, and they are thinking about doing a blind date with books in the event.
