ALAS takes field trip to KU
December 6, 2016
All Latinos Achieving Success, better known as ALAS, attended the Latin Leadership symposium on Oct. 27 at the University of Kansas.
The symposium was designed for students to get a look at college and the Latin American fields of study.
“The purpose of going to KU was students to see and broaden their different options,” Angel Cornejo, ALAS sponsor, said.
Esmeralda Reyes, junior, felt that she learned a great deal and thought that the trip was very beneficial.
“I did have to pay, but it was worth the cost,” Reyes said.
“I gained a lot of knowledge about what I would expect in college and how future can work and become successful. I had a lot of fun and learned that being a Latina is a wonderful thing,” Reyes said.
KU is not the only college the club has visited.
“We have gone to many places. We went to UMKC and Emporia,” Cornejo said.
Cornejo has plans for the group to take many other trips, such as a trip to the Kansas State University, in the future.
“We probably won’t go to the same event, but we certainly are planning on going to KU again and are planning on going somewhere else next semester,” Cornejo said.
Students are excited about upcoming field trips and cannot wait to get involved with other events.
“I do plan on going on future trips with ALAS. We are going to have a meeting to discuss how we can get involved with the community,” Reyes said.
