Students had the opportunity to “taste” some new books at the library book event on Sept. 29 during seminar.

Students had to sign up at the library in order to participate in the event. There were two sessions that students could sign up for.

The event was to promote and recommend books to those who are interested. This event is new this year, and there will be others like it in the future.

The new librarian this year, Megan Roberts, intended for this event to spark students’ interest in the library.

Roberts has planned other book events as well, one on Nov. 3, which will include coffee and coloring, and one in February.

At the book event, there was water, cookies and popcorn for the students to help themselves to along with books.

“Books and food, two things I love,” Emily Kennedy, junior, said.

Kennedy, who went to the second session, thought the library event was a great idea to meet other people with similar interests and was an opportunity to get together.

“I thought it was interesting, and I want to be involved in the library,” Kennedy said.

The theme of the event was a café, and students had the chance to do a “book tasting.” Students received a sheet of paper with plates on them. On each plate were three types of books: appetizers, main course and desserts.

The main course books were classics, and the appetizers and desserts were light-read books that will grab a reader’s attention quickly.

Those who attended had the opportunity to check out the books that were recommended in the event and in turn, get a piece of candy for it.
