Spain wasn’t the only place students went this summer.

Olivia Barbosa, junior, went to Portugal and the Cape Verde islands for three weeks.

She went to visit famiy and enjoyed every moment of it.

“I loved seeing my family on my dad’s side and experiencing a different culture and meeting new people,” Barbosa said.

Along with Barbosa, Samantha Yeh also visited a foreign country over the summer.

Through the school’s Japanese program, Yeh went to Japan with other South students.

She stayed with a host family and enjoyed them. She hopes to one day return and visit them.

“My host family was amazing. I felt like I was a part of the family after five days. Going there to see them again is one of my dreams now,” Yeh said.

Yeh also admired the landscape Japan had to offer.

“I loved the scenery in Japan. Forests were all around us, and I found it found it funny that a temple and a skyscraper could be across the street from each other,”Yeh said.

Although some students might have stayed at home this summer, Barbosa and Yeh spent their summers elsewhere.
