‘Ghostbusters’ busts at comedy

Fans of the original “Ghostbusters” movies will be disappointed with the new addition to the series, but regular movie-goers might have a good time if they don’t have high expectations.

After losing her job because of a ghost they caught on tape, physics professor Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), along with her friend, Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), their co-worker Jillian Holtz (Kate McKinnin), their not-so-smart receptionist Kevin Beckman (Chris Hemsworth), and Patty (Leslie Jones), a subway worker, forms a ghost-catching business.

One of the positive aspects of the movie was the action.

While in the old “Ghostbusters” movies the actors just stood still holding their guns while the special effects did the rest, in this movie the protagonists jump and flip while they fight ghosts.

However, the comedy is hit-or-miss and is very focused on slapstick and gross-out humor. Most of the comedic scenes come from someone getting puked on by a ghost or getting slapped by someone.

Anyone who has not watched the old “Ghostbusters” movies might enjoy it depending on their preferred style of humor, but fans of the old “Ghostbusters” should expect a different type of movie.
