Track Team Breaks Lots of Records
May 9, 2016
As of May 16, the track team has set six school records this season.
Jacquelyn Darby, senior, set the school record for the 100-meter dash at 12.08 seconds and the 4 x 100 meter relay along with Riley Degner, freshman, Grace Williams, junior, and Breanna Weiss, senior.
Darby aslso set the 4 x 200-meter relay record at 1:44.47 along with Williams, Natalie Miller, sophomore, and Degner.
Summer Kragel, junior, tied for the high jump school record at 5 feet and 6 inches.
“The record was set when I was born,” Kragel said. “It’s been my goal since freshman year to break it.”
Cameron Waldo, junior, set the record for the 400 meter dash at 48.11 seconds, and Jared Rienke, senior, set the record for the 800 meter dash at 1:55.76 seconds.
Matt Bohm, coach, believes there’s room for improvement for the team.
“We have some students who are on the verge of doing really well,” Bohm said. “I think there is room for improvement and I expect us, two weeks for now, to top our potential.”
The team is taking 20 athletes to regionals on May 20 at ODAC, and they are also planning to go to state on May 27 at Wichita.
“No matter what event, we are always motivating each other,” Kragel said.
