During the second week of June, the cast and crew of “Crush” will be going to the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Neb., along with over 3,000 people.

“Crush” was performed in September and adjudicated then for nationals. It was one of the few shows chosen to be performed at the International Thespian Festival in a theater that holds around 1,500 people. “Crush” will be performed with the majority of the same cast; yet there will be some changes due to availability of students. The cast and crew of “Crush” will definitely perform two shows with the possibility of a third.

Veronica Wood, senior, went to the conference last year and said in comparison to last year she thinks “It’ll be a different experience this year because there are more people from Olathe South and we’re putting on a show,” but overall she thinks this year “it’ll be more fun.”

The conference has many theatre-oriented activities such as workshops, dances, individual events, college auditions and many shows. Each day students will see two shows.

Only one Olathe South student will compete in an individual event, Ryan Hovey, junior. Hovey is competing with an advertisement individual event for “Crush.”

Cooper Dammrich, junior, said his favorite part was “the fact that you’re surrounded by people who love theatre, too. Everyone is so different and it’s cool.”

He also loved taking the playwriting workshops since that’s his favorite part of theatre.

Wood said that she “really liked doing the college auditions.”

Both students are very excited and agree that this year will be bigger and better than previous.
