Symphonic band performs for district high schools
April 11, 2016
The Falcon Symphonic Band headed to Olathe Northwest to perform for the other Olathe high schools in the District Symphonic Band Festival on March 30.
Symphonic bands from each Olathe high school gathered together to perform and represent their school.
State for the Symphonic Band takes place on April 13. “The Symphonic Band’s goal is to receive feedback on their pieces before state in two weeks,” Chad Coughlin, band director, said.
The band director from Pittsburg State critiqued the band.
Approximately 94 Symphonic Band students were taken to Olathe Northwest; another 52 in the Wind Ensemble played at Olathe East the next day, March 31.
The band did receive some good feedback on their pieces, according to Grace Strong, freshman.
Music played for the festival had to include one piece from a pre-selected list compiled by the state directors. The band director of each school then selects another piece that complements the first when performed.
The music pieces selected by band directors Chad Coughlin and Mike Filla were “Choreography” by Robert Sheldon and “Triumphant Fanfare” by Richard Saucedo.
