The school district central office will be gaining a new staff member effective July 1.

Gail Holder, English teacher and drill team instructor, has been promoted to the district position assistant director of teaching and learning. The position includes tasks such as working on district initiatives and vision to working with individual teachers, principals and other school staff members in order to provide a better learning and working environment.

Some of Holder’s best memories from teaching were simply of the students and staff.

“For sure, my favorite part of teaching has been the students and staff I’ve had the opportunity to work with,” Holder said.

Being the main instructor for the Golden Girls Drill Team, she has great memories from working with the team as well.

“Some of my favorite memories from working with the Golden Girls have been simply having the opportunity to have worked with the thousands of women that have been on the team over the years, and seeing the dancers transform into leaders successful even after high school,” she said.

Holder will most miss discussing and teaching literature as well as having her students participate in literature discussions. She will least miss having to make decisions between family and school.

Holder wants to help create the future in her new job, and she hopes that she can help influence the district to move further in a positive direction.

Three new dance instructors have already been hired: Ali Plankers, Victoria Palomino and Megan Zych. They will be working with the Golden Girls effective immediately after Holder has left. Plankers will be a new FACS teacher, Palomino will be a new English teacher, and Zych is currently teaching at Woodland Elementary School. Both Plankers and Zych are former Golden Girls themselves
