Fundraisers for Project Graduation in progress

Graduation is getting closer and closer every day. So, Project Graduation is also getting closer.

Project Graduation is an event put on after graduation for seniors to provide a safe, alcohol- and drug-free party to celebrate their accomplishments. This year it is being held at Matt Ross Community Center.

According to the Project Grad website, “The graduates travel by bus to enjoy food, participate in games, swim and win prizes” during Project Grad.

To be able to afford putting on Project Grad, parent sponsors Gail Holder and Lynne Sheffield have been organizing other parents to put on events to raise money.

“We are getting closer to our goal every day,” Holder said. “It is going to be a fantastic event.”

An event that just recently took place was Shoot for the Loot.

Shoot for the Loot consisted of three people attempting to make a half-court shot at halftime. Entries were $1 each and whoever made the halftime shot was to win half of the money and Project Graduation would get the other half. No one ended up making the shot, so Project Grad ended up with all the money.

Past events also include a garage sale and pancake breakfast, donating Hy-Vee receipts, Test Drive 4 UR School and various dining fundraisers.

“The past events have done really well,” Holder said.

The next event is going to be a Spring Sports Spectacular that will be on April 22.
