The NFL Scouting Combine is a staple in the NFL. It happens every year around February through March. It has been around since 1982. The combine happens in Indianapolis Indiana in Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Colts. The Combine is where college players go to show their skills and help them get drafted sooner than they are projected. But the only way to get into the combine is being invited to it and if you don’t want to participate you don’t have to, it’s just better if you do. It is one of the bigger events in the NFL. The events they do to show their skills are the 40-yard dash, 10-yard split, Vertical jump, Broad jump, Three-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle, Bench press (225 pounds).
Each team sends multiple scouts to the combine to observe the players and find their weaknesses and strengths so they can draft the player that best supports/helps their team. Each scout that a team sends observes different positions because some are better at observing different positions than others. This year is supposed to be a really strong draft class. With star players like Sheadur Sander, Abdul Carter, Cam Ward, Quinn Ewers, Ashton Jeanty, Heisman Winner Travis Hunter and many more upcoming stars.
After the combine is the draft process which is the most common way of recruitment in the NFL. The Draft has been around since 1936 when someone proposed it in a meeting and the league owners voted and adopted the Draft. This is how the Draft process works. The winner of the Super Bowl selects last and the loser selects next-to-last in all 7 rounds, regardless of the record of the teams in the regular season. The losers of the Conference Championship select 29th and 30th in all rounds, according to the reverse order of their standing. The losers of the Divisional Playoffs select 25th through 28th in all rounds, according to the reverse order of their standing. The losers of the Wild Card games select 19th through 24th in all rounds, according to the reverse order of their standing. Teams not in the playoffs select in the first through 18th positions in all rounds, according to the reverse order of their standing.
