Election Day was a day to mourn for many people. To mourn their rights and freedom to be who they are and to have the right to choose. As a man, your rights might not go away but women’s do, minorities do, and people who deserve to have free will do.
It seems like America only cares about freedom and free will when it benefits them, but we’re supposed to be the land of the free and have equality for everyone. Women fought for years to earn the right to vote and so much more yet in one day that could all go away. Women fought so hard in history to be put on a pedestal even close to men and somehow we are constantly pushed off of it and told there’s no way back up. This has to stop, we cannot keep repeating history.
This is what I’m afraid of, that’s the fear. People are too devastated to turn on the TV, doomsday scrolling, and are worried for their lives. This election was way more complicated than what we believe, the media makes things seem either worse or better than it is. You never get a fair idea of what either party believes in because everything is biased. Maybe Kamala wasn’t the best choice for America, but for me, she was the best choice of the two with the morals she showed.
I will always believe in the candidate who will protect and fight for the human rights we deserve in this country. I believe any discrimination is wrong and the way the country is going it’s obvious they just don’t care about the minorities anymore. America isn’t for the people anymore and I don’t know if it ever has been.
Donald Trump has made a mockery of women so many times, women who he now has under his control and maybe not under his complete control but with all the red that won in this election he will have what he wants and he’s made that clear. The way he speaks about people should tell everyone he is not fit to be president and perhaps he says things that sound perfect to certain individuals but how can you believe someone who puts down so many people? How could you justify all of the things being said against him? How do you defend your vote when you know how much he strikes fear into others or maybe that’s why you wanted to vote for him.
We need to stop idolizing politicians as a whole, none of them are perfect, most have their downfalls and there’s no need to pretend like they don’t. At the end of the day this is our life, our future, and what will be our past. There are men who wear ‘America first’ hats and still have the audacity to say “Your body, my choice’ and yet people don’t find that wrong or disturbing. They just want to feel dominant and I won’t allow that.
This is not what our country should come to. This is not what I want my future to look like or what the future for younger generations of women should look like. People wonder why we as women say we’d choose a bear over a man: it’s because of situations like this where the man shows his true colors and what he believes in.
I am not ready to go through this all again because him winning isn’t the worst part, it’s the men who support him so wholeheartedly and make sure women know we are under them. As a woman I will never allow a man to make me look like a fool, I am in control of my body, my spirit, and who I am. I am not just an appendage nor am I a nobody, I will never be anything and I will never allow anyone to make me feel like nothing. That is what I want all of the other women in America to believe in. Women are just as important as men, we are worth just as much.
I will no longer be ‘just a girl’ because I am done being shown as less than for it. I am a woman and that should be great in its own way. I am sick of feeling less than. I am not okay with being a woman in a man’s world, I am a woman in our world, in my world. A world in which I can make my own path.
The government should not be in control of my body especially when it’s not in charge of mens as well. I am so angry and I will stay angry for the next four years. I will never understand how people let this happen when we had so much hope for bigger and better things. Think about all of the women who have lost their lives because of the abortion bans, think about all of the people who died the day of the election after they found out the outcome. This was not supposed to happen, this is not what we fought for and I cannot stand by not doing anything as I watch a wildfire.
So keep your fire, and lead the right fight because we can’t give up. This is important, this is real life and we need to start taking things seriously. If you didn’t vote or were unable to, please consider how important it is to vote whenever you’re able—this is your life and your future.
