‘The Hunger Games’ series complete
December 2, 2015
The four-part movie series based on “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins has come to a conclusion with the “Mockingjay Part 2.”
This movie has been highly anticipated for fans of “The Hunger Games” series, and many are satisfied with the conclusion.
They are justified in their enjoying the film, because this action-packed movie is the perfect way to wrap up the series.
The film opens with the protagonist Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) struggling to speak because at the end of the last movie it’s seen that Peeta Mallark (Josh Hutcherson) has gone crazy after being tortured in the Capitol with tracker jacker venom, and he attempts to strangle her in a fit of rage.
Peeta continues to try to get better throughout this movie and struggles to comprehend what’s real. He can’t decipher who has done what, if Katniss is evil, or if she loves him. The acting is incredible and raw, and the pain these characters portray is very realistic.
Katniss had won the Hunger Games, escaped the Quarter Quell, and learned that her home district has been destroyed. She has a vendetta against President Snow, and joins the front lines of a war to assassinate him.
Along with her go other major characters: Finnick (Sam Claflin)Boggs (Mahershala Ali) Cressida (Natalie Dormer) Pollux (Elden Henson) and Castor (Wes Chatham.) Of course, Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) and Peeta are there also.
All of them look amazing, covered in futuristic war gear and running through the battle field that was once the Capitol.
When they go through the streets after the first troops, they set off things called pods, which will send machine gun fire or flamethrowers in their direction.
The Capitol puts a lot of overly complicated and seemingly unnecessary obstacles in the group’s way in hopes of killing the team and ultimately Katniss, the face of the rebellion.
Fans of only the movies and not the novels haven’t known who Katniss will end up with, Peeta or Gale, but her choice is finally revealed at the end with a shot of Katniss and the guy she chose post-war, living in the new Panem, the rebuilt District 12. It’s a cute and sweet ending to the somewhat bitter series.
Some fan favorite characters don’t make it through, and those who do are completely changed.
These characters have nightmares, they’ve lost loved ones, and while they’re finally free from the tyranny of the Capitol, they have to live with the memories forever. The whole thing is a bit depressing.
This is the second best movie, after “Mockingjay Part 1,” because it’s depressing, but still shows the hope of an entire nation binding together.
The long-awaited conclusion to “The Hunger Games” series answers fans’ questions that the first three posed and has a couple unexpected twists in the ending.
