Sonic the Hedgehog is one the most recognizable video game characters of all time. His brand is so popular that he has 31 main Sonic titles, not even including the spin-offs. With the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie getting an overall 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s no wonder that it would get another movie. Paramount Pictures’ “Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) – “Official Trailer” – Paramount Pictures” on Youtube has a whopping 33 million views with 480K likes. “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is a movie that both old and young fans can find enjoyable.

The film’s protagonist, Sonic the Hedgehog, once again has to fight Dr. Robotnik. However, Robotnik has help this time from Knuckles the Echidna who wants to find the Master Emerald. Sonic is not alone as he meets Miles “Tails” Prower and saves the world.

This movie has a lot of things going for it, such as animation (CGI) and voice acting. The CGI is nothing to scoff at. When you look at Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, they look like they truly belong on Earth. Sonic’s spin dash and Tails’ flying pays tribute to the games, making fans happy. The voice acting is equally as good. Ben Schwartz once again does a brilliant job as portraying Sonic, a practical joker and overall lovable. Along with him, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails and Idris Elba as Knuckles also portray their characters well. O’Shaughnessey has voiced Tails in the games, so hearing her voice is refreshing. Idris Elba playing Knuckles was a welcome surprise. He doesn’t really do voice acting, but when he does, it’s amazing.

The only problem with the movie is the plot. It’s fairly simple and cliche. The formula has been used over and over again and, frankly, it gets boring. However, the movie targets kids, so in the end it works. Hopefully, there’s a more complex plot in the future.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is an enjoyable movie for both fans and newcomers alike. They even introduce Super Sonic and Giant Eggman Robo. Paramount does such a great job that a third movie was hinted at in the end credits. If it does well in the box office, maybe fans will get to see Shadow and UltraSonic.
