The boys and girls basketball team hosted Late Night on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. to help raise money for and donate foods to Mission Southside.

For admission, students brought one canned food item or non-perishable food for donation. Students arrived at 6 p.m. to enter in raffles for a chance to win a Traeger Tailgate Grill, Chiefs tickets, Johnson County Community College (JCCC) theater tickets, and more.

Basketball players performed a dance and had a short scrimmage for varsity and JV. Also, there was a dunk contest and more games for the students to be a part of. Drill team and cheerleading also performed.

Late Night is a way to get the students and players enthusiastic and ready for the upcoming basketball season. It is also a way to encourage students to get involved and come to the games.

Dan Morrow, head coach for boys basketball, said, “This season I want us to compete in every game we play, control what we can control: attitude, effort, and energy.” He also wants the team to improve each week by “playing our best basketball game at the end of the season.”

There is one returning starter and two returning letter winners. Competitive practices will also determine who will be on varsity. The girls basketball team has two returning starters and returning seniors on varsity.

Mike Allen, head coach for girls basketball, said, “We have some underclassman this year that we are hoping will help us. We are going to work hard and see what happens.”

Goals for the girls basketball season is to get better each week, to compete all four quarters, and to win their sub-state.
